Senior Connections Presents Civil Rights Then and Now in the library
Thursday, February 6, 2025 • 8 Sh'vat 5785
6:30 PM - 8:00 PMCharles O. Prickett offers a engaging program addressing justice, civil rights and equality in a civil society. In our country, we have a history of marginalizing people based on skin color, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sex, LGBTQ+, disability, age, and poverty. We can eliminate these inequities by realizing what we do individually and as a society, and taking steps to change our laws and behavior. His program puts you in the trenches of the civil rights movement in the 1960s, by engaging participants in question-and-answer sessions resulting in open-ended discussions. These are the events that led to the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. These legislative acts led to a stronger democracy in our country. But these guarantees have been steadily eroded by the U.S. Supreme Court and by various state legislatures.
