10:00 AM - 12:00 PMFrom Academia to Navy Science to Big Oil to Offshore Wind to Submarine Cables
DanO’s Wandering Path on Both Sides of the Military-Industrial Complex
Deep sea oceanographer Dr. Dan “DanO” Orange (Ph.D. Geology, Geophysics UCSC), has been funded by the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research since 1992, and has helped develop advanced techniques in oil exploration and seafloor mapping used by offshore wind farms and surface ships laying advanced fiber optic cables. DanO is currently integrating a new generation of geophysical survey systems for the U.S. academic fleet’s six largest ships. It’s a movie-worthy life of adventure and discovery and even love along the way. It promises to be an interesting and possibly educational morning!
Beginning at 10am, we'll host our always delicious bagel and lox brunch, take care of a little Brotherhood business, followed by DanO’s presentation starting around 10:45am, concluding around 11:45am. At that time, TBE Executive Director David Ginsborg will introduce the Simcha improvement project (partially funded by Brotherhood) and offer tours of the expanded Simcha Preschool. The brunch charge is $5 for Brotherhood members and $10 for non-members. All TBE welcome!
