The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research is dedicated to the preservation and study of the history and culture of East European Jewry worldwide. They are the home of the foremost archives and library on this history and the presenter of acclaimed exhibitions, concerts, and lectures. For nearly a century, YIVO has pioneered new forms of Jewish scholarship, research, education, and cultural expression.

Join Director of the YIVO Archives, Stefanie Halpern, as she explains the history of YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, its pre-war collections, and the technologies used to digitize them. She will talk about the Edward Blank YIVO Vilna Online Collections project, present highlights from the digitized materials and demonstrate how to access these materials online.

Stefanie Halpern is Director of the Archives at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. She received her PhD from the Department of Jewish Literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Her dissertation, "Crossing Over from the Yiddish Rialto to the American Stage," explores the ways the Yiddish theater intersected with and ultimately became part of the mainstream American theatrical institution. Stefanie has published articles on Yiddish and Jewish theater and performance and was the assistant curator of the exhibition “From the Bowery to Broadway: New York’s Yiddish Theater,” held at the Museum of the City of New York.
