Wondering what Hallel is? Hallel, prayers of praise and thanksgiving are chanted on Sukkot, with the waving of the lulav and etrog. Chanted on our Festivals and the New Moon these psalms express praise and thanksgiving. On Sukkot Hallel includes the mitzvah of “waving” the Four Species – the lulav, a cluster of palm, willow, and myrtle leaves gathered in our hands, with an etrog, a lemon-like fruit. These movements are not random waving but a very specific choreography that uses the whole body and our ability to focus our minds and body together.
