Senior Connections program with Joshua Grayson

Monday, August 5, 2024 1 Av 5784

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

A native of New Jersey, Joshua Grayson has been playing classical piano since the age of three. Dr. Grayson is dedicated to sharing his passion for both the standard classical repertoire and unusual, unfamiliar works. He has performed and lectured on both coasts of the United States as well as in Europe, and has appeared as soloist with the Cambridge Symphonia in Cambridge, England. In the words of Olegna Fuschi, former director of the Juilliard School’s prestigious Precollege Division, Dr. Grayson offers “a unique combination of intellectual curiosity, knowledge, language and piano performance skills.”

Dr. Grayson holds a PhD in historical musicology from the University of Southern California. His scholarly interests focus on issues of personal, ethnic, and national identity as they relate to classical music. His doctoral dissertation examines the late choral music of Arnold Schoenberg as an expression of the composer’s Jewish ethno-religious identity. Dr. Grayson holds dual bachelor’s degrees from Indiana University in piano performance and in mathematics; he is also a Juilliard Precollege program alumnus.

Dr. Grayson recently relocated to the Bay Area from Los Angeles. In addition to his music career, he is also the owner of Lost Roots Family History, a private genealogy practice focusing on Jewish families from Central and Eastern Europe.
