Library Browsing
The books in the library are shelved according to Weine subject classification, an adaption of the Dewey Decimal scheme used in Jewish libraries. While the online library catalog is the best way to discover what we own and locate them on the shelf, you can browse the collection by broad subject categories. Below is a guide to key subject areas with their corresponding shelving numbers.
Most books are organized by shelf number, left to right from 000 - 999.
Exceptions:
- Biographies (Bio) are shelved separately at the beginning of the collection.
- Literary works (Lit), including fiction, poetry and plays, are shelved. organized by author, following the 900s.
- Oversized items, plus volumes of Talmud and Zohar can be found along the top shelves.
- Pamphlets are kept in several purple boxes placed around the room.
- Juvenile, Young Adult and Parenting collections are shelved in separate sections at the far right of the library.
